Years after his escape from Alcatraz, John Mason believed he'd left his past behind. But when his daughter Angelou—a decorated CIA operative he never knew existed—attempts to thwart a terrorist heist at the Cathedral of Notre Dame, everything changes.

The mission goes catastrophically wrong. Angelou's cover is blown, and she's captured by ruthless terrorists who fortify the cathedral. With priceless artifacts at stake and his daughter's life hanging in the balance, Mason has no choice but to come out of hiding.

He turns to the only man he can trust: Stanley Goodspeed, the chemical weapons expert who helped him escape 25 years ago. Now relegated to a back-room desk job after the Alcatraz incident, Goodspeed has his own reasons for wanting back in the field. Together, they infiltrate Notre Dame and successfully extract Angelou.

But their victory is short-lived. The terrorist leader escapes with Angelou as his hostage, fleeing across the Atlantic to San Francisco—where he takes refuge in the one place he believes is truly impenetrable: Alcatraz.
